union
1. (union) (619↑, 198↓)
1. Workers unite to fight [the man]; the man is so damn powerful individuals have no chance, but if we all stick together, maybe we've got a chance to earn a decent wage. 2. The same organization gets people "taken off the schedule" because they won't give up 20% of their paycheck. See [irony].

1. Thanks to the union for the 40 hour work week, health insurance, sick days... 2. This union extortion could turn a democrat into a republican

2. (union) (583↑, 174↓)
A democratic worker organization that enables employees to join together with one another in order to negotiate compensation, benefits, working conditions, and other terms of employment with their employer. Unions ensure that employers are 1) fair, 2) accountable and 3) responsive to employee concerns. Unions establish a process by which to deal with workplace issues and ensure that said process is applied evenly to employees.

By joining together with my coworkers to form a union, we fought for and won better benefits and a voice at work.

The folks that brought you the weekend

Unions brought us the weekend. And the 8-hour workday, and safe working conditions requirements, and fair pay for fair work, and protection from management harrassment

4. (Union) (428↑, 98↓)
Also known as Trade Union or Labour Union. Workers bind together to form Unions so that they together can fight for better work conditions. Without the power of the Union workers would completely be at the mercy of the employers. But sticking together they got a better change to fight for their interests.

Thanks to the Unions we got a 40 hour work week.

5. (Union) (392↑, 64↓)
A group of workers coming together and demanding the right to collectively bargain with their employer (contract). Some like to think that unions are no longer relevant in this vibrant economy and that corporations are inherently good things that are good for workers. Yea? Well, rest assured that while you are trying to figure out how to pay that credit card bill this month that is slowly killing you, the boss does not have your problem. Oh yea, the work harder argument. Well, the folks that work the HARDEST in America earn the least. Unions are YOUR way out of having to ball lap your boss at work for a decent wage. You can make him negotiate a contract with you, you just have to join a UNION\!

I am working my face off and I have not received a raise in about two fucking years. If I ask my boss for a raise he might laugh at me or worse. I guess I should talk to the rest of my miserable co-workers, join a union, and make this prick treat me with some dignity.

6. (union) (423↑, 99↓)
Group of workers who work together for eachother. A certant percentage is taken out of the paycheck in order for it to work effectively. Before unions some people had to work 84 hour workweeks in dangerous minds, going to work in the dark and waking up in the dark 6 days a week; and by the end of the week owing the company money.

It was more like slavery than employment

7. (union) (432↑, 134↓)
the only chance that you have at work\! to get a fair shake\! the only true friend that you can trust at the work place\!

Because my work place doesn't have a union, I take it in the ass\!

8. (union) (426↑, 149↓)
The only thing that gives the working man a half descent chance at surviving in America. Rich fucking republican pukes hate Unions because they fucking regulate their greedy asses from ripping honest working people off. Unions are also kind of hipocritical in a way seeing as whenever a Union goes on strike, the strikers only get paid $5 an hour why the heads/owners of the unions make a shit load of money. Unions however are still better to have than not to have, so go fucking shove it you fat, lazy, republican pukes.

"FUCK THIS\! I'M ON MY LUNCH BRAKE YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE\! *whips out union card*

9. (union) (194↑, 183↓)
Unions were designed to help workers and they did. Lives and working conditions for the workers improved. But the power of the unions got out of control as they took control of the government and made laws. Now the government denies a struggling businessman the right to try to get his business out of financial difficulty by cutting workers or their wages. Telliong people how to run their lives, sounds like fascism. Apparently unions think they have the right to a job and because of that the businesses will go out of business and everyone will be out of work.

Stupid Lawyer: You can't fire that worker, he worked here for ten years. He has family. Business Owner: I understand, but I have to cut costs to stay in business or else I will go under and no one will have a job. Lawyer: You disgusting Capitalist pig, how dare you run your business the way you choose. Business Owner's Lawyer: I'm sorry, but he right, due to the union laws, you can't just fire him.

10. (Union) (19↑, 76↓)
A black hole that you're forced to throw money into if you belong to one. One never really knows where it all ends up, and no one may never will.

Karl: What the hell's with these deductions from my paycheck. Mary: Well the unions hungry again.

11. (union) (668↑, 738↓)
an association that uses thuggery, hooliganism, bribery and blackmail to get the wage level raised above its true value for lazy workers

those dumb union workers at the printers drove all the print shops out of business and then had no jobs at all

12. (Union) (4↑, 79↓)
Where did the word 'Union' come from? The word 'union,' in the sense of a 'labor union,' has a most interesting origin. Its first known usage was in reference to a band of ne'er-do-well field hands in the East Suffolk Broads about 1762. But it was not pronounced as it is today. Sounding more like 'onion,' the term was applied because of the field hands' skill at avoiding the labor they were hired to do. Whenever there was hard work in the offing, these 'onionists' would begin clamoring to go to the adjoining field to take a leek. The term quickly won widespread acceptance and beame a source of endless mockery and derision. Humiliated, the early onionists worked desperately to erase the moniker but it stuck like glue. About 1797, however, they perfected and bankrolled a scheme where, working in concert with Smythe-Scrimshaw (one of London's largest lexicograpical publishers), they managed to change the accepted pronunciation to what it is today. Their plan took some seven years to unfold and was far too complicated to explain here but history records they finally brought an end to popular knowledge of their earliest and most favored pursuits.

The first union troglodytes built the pyramids. Engineers designed it to be a cube but, as each shift did a little less than the one before, the last said, 'let's just throw a couple of rocks up top and go have a beer.'

13. (Union) (221↑, 310↓)
Outdated social construct perverted from a once noble mission into socioeconomic virus destined to usher in the next great depression. In the 1920's, unions protected people from slave wages and conditions. Over time, they won the war and the American middle class boomed. Today, having fulfilled their mission, rather than fading away, they continue to fight in a kind of sad, desperate grasp at hanging on to their own existence. They are not unlike the ACLU. Having gained the major victories and won all the good fights, they seek out the most petty, trivial, and even downright morally reprehensible battles in effort to justify their continued existence.

How come Japanese cars perform better, get better mileage, and are safer? Well, maybe it's because the Japanese don't have cut $2000 of features out of every car to fulfill rich union retiree obligations. Or perhaps it's because they have more money to hire the best engineers because they don't pay uneducated, unskilled workers $25-35/hr to do manual labor. Wait. Wait. I got. Perhaps it's because they're workers haven't been poisoned by American unions and feel like a craftsman trading equally with their company rather than leeches trying only to suck out as much as possible while exerting the minimal amount of effort... hmmm?

14. (union) (264↑, 358↓)
group of people who take breaks and several lunches throughout the day.

the union told me i work to hard..

15. (Union) (8↑, 120↓)
An extremely ghetto town in Ohio known for its flawless drugs. Rich folk look down on Union folk. The poor folk that live there don't really care because they can just get their buddies and pound the rich folk.

Shoot man, I can't walk around Union right now. It's dark outside and I got money in pocket, I'll most likely get mugged.

16. (Union) (50↑, 195↓)
Lazy American workers who, through their association with the mafia and south american drug cartels, claim they have "the right not to work."

Mike: "Hey Jeff I jost got word GM is laying me off\!" Jeff: "Have fun sitting around in the breakroom for 9 months on company time. Remember, the Teamsters Union afforded you the right to be a lazy ass." Mike: "Oh great Jeff\! By the way, hows that Indian call center job going?"

17. (union) (65↑, 210↓)
The only reason a person with no college education or skills can earn $25 an hour for unskilled labor while sitting around and doing nothing, showing up for work late or drunk, calling in sick half the time and without concern for punishment, taking a very long lunch and like 5 breaks, and getting most holidays off while having the audacity to complain and demand more from his company and go on strike about his company’s alleged “unfair” working conditions. The only thing that would be “fair” is for the company to kick the union and its lazy employees like this to the curb and replace them with hardworking people who would be grateful to have such high pay and benefits for unskilled work.

I hate the union\! All labor unions are antiquated, corrupt, useless and a detrement to corporate America. The union(s) are also the reason so many industrial jobs in this country are going to Mexico and China.

18. (union) (231↑, 377↓)
The reason why my job is going to India.

Rambabu: Steve, why are you the only American programmer working at Visa in Foster City? Steve: Because unions aren't allowed here and business lobbyists got their way in Congress. Rambabu: Why does a programmer need to make $40 an hour out here, while programmers in India do well on $3 an hour? Steve: Unions allow workers to get paid more for doing less, which raises taxes and construction costs, while destroying education.
